News and Current Affairs chief of ABS-CBN Maria Ressa resigns after serving the network for six years. According to ABS-CBN source, Maria Ressa’s resignation is due effective January 2011.
“My contract ends on Jan. 3, 2011, and I will not be renewing. I have nearly six months of accumulated leaves so I will go on terminal leave beginning Nov. 15,” Maria Ressa stated on her email released by ABS-CBN Corporate Communications.
Ressa quits ABS-CBN at a crucial time for Philippine broadcasting. ABS-CBN and GMA Network were both reprimanded by both political leaders and viewers for their in-depth coverage of the August hostage tragedy.
Ressa was even grilled at the Senate inquiry for the coverage and for a conflict of interest as proletarian contributor for CNN. Ressa is reportedly to have written an opinion piece in Wall Street Journal that President Aquino flunked his first test. However, her email messages didn’t explain reasons for the resignation.
